India receives 18% below normal rainfall of 4.0 mm Friday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 4.0 millimetres of rainfall Friday, 18% below the normal of 4.9 millimetres for the day, according to the India Meteorological Department. So far in the current season, the country has received 912.4 millimetres of rainfall, 7% above normal for the period, according to the weather department's data.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, one received above normal rainfall Friday and three recorded below normal rainfall. Rainfall over east and northeast India was 87% below normal at 1.3 millimetres. Five out of the seven subdivisions in this region received large deficient rainfall. Rainfall over northwest India was 95% below normal at 0.1 millimetres. Central India recorded 4.0 millimetres of rain, 4% below normal, while the southern peninsula received 110% above normal rainfall at 12.2 millimetres, according to the data.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in seven, "excess" in two, "normal" in two, "deficient" in six, and "large deficient" in 14. There was no rainfall in five subdivisions. End
