India received 28% below normal rainfall of 3.8 mm Thursday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 3.8 millimetres of rainfall Thursday, 28% below the normal of 5.3 millimetres for the day, according to the India Meteorological Department. So far in the current season, the country has received 908.4 millimetres of rainfall, 7% above normal for the period, according to the weather department's data. 

 

Of all the four homogeneous regions in the country, one received above normal rainfall Thursday and three recorded below normal rainfall. Rainfall over east and northeast India was 70% below normal at 3.0 millimetres. Rainfall over northwest India was 92% below normal at 0.3 millimetres. Central India recorded 7.8 millimetres of rain, 73% above normal, while the southern peninsula received 44% below normal rainfall at 3.1 millimetres, according to the data. 

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in three, "excess" in two, "normal" in one, "deficient" in five, and "large deficient" in 19. Six subdivisions received no rainfall Thursday.  End
