NEW DELHI – Weakness in markets has likely restricted the growth in addition of new unique investors on the National Stock Exchange since Diwali in 2024, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ashishkumar Chauhan said Wednesday on the sidelines of the launch of the Hindi edition of his biography 'Sthitapragya'.

"If markets do well, more people come to the markets and in some ways post COVID a lot more people came and there was a way to get involved in the stock markets. Now probably that phase has kind of reached the plateau," Chauhan said.

In an interaction with Business Today last year, Chauhan had said the number of unique investors on NSE grew by 25% or 21 million between Diwali 2023 and 2024. The number of unique investors grew to 105 million from 84 million in this timeframe, according to Chauhan. However, in the run up to Diwali this year, the number of unique investors on the platform is around 120 million, a growth of 14%.  End
