India receives 18% below rainfall of 4.5 mm Wednesday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 4.5 millimetres of rainfall Wednesday, 18% below the normal of 5.5 millimetres for the day, according to the India Meteorological Department. So far in the current season, the country has received 904.3 millimetres of rainfall, 7% above normal rainfall for the period, according to the weather department's data.
Of all the four homogeneous regions in the country, one received above normal rainfall Wednesday and three recorded below normal rainfall. Rainfall over east and northeast India was 41% below normal at 5.8 millimetres. Rainfall over northwest India was 98% below normal at 0.1 millimetres. Central India recorded 8.0 millimetres of rain, 60% above normal, while the southern peninsula received 21% below normal rainfall at 4.4 millimetres, according to the data.
Of 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in four, "excess" in one, "normal" in four, "deficient" in ten, "large deficient" in eleven. Six subdivisions received no rainfall on Wednesday. End
