MUMBAI – Tata Motors Ltd.'s UK subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover is extending the closure of its factories till Oct. 1 following the cyberattack early September which left its operations paralysed and smaller suppliers struggling, news agency Reuters reported Tuesday. "We have made this decision to give clarity for the coming week as we build the timeline for the phased restart of our operations and continue our investigation," JLR said.

JLR has three factories in the UK which produces about 1,000 units per day. The group is said to be losing tens of millions of pounds, with many of its 33,000 employees told to stay at home, the news report said. JLR is the latest company to have dealt with a string of cyber and ransomware attacks around the world, along with UK-based retailer Marks & Spencer.

UK Business Minister Peter Kyle is scheduled to visit JLR Tuesday and talk to companies in its supply chain, the news agency reported. UK's Industry Minister Chris McDonald will also be attending the meetings later. "We have two priorities – helping Jaguar Land Rover get back up and running as soon as possible and the long-term health of the supply chain," McDonald said.

For the quarter ended June, JLR's revenue had fallen over 9% on year to 6.60 billion pound sterling amid higher uncertainties on US tariffs. The UK subsidiary's wholesales volume was down nearly 11% from the year-ago period to 87,286 units in the reporting quarter. On Tuesday, shares of the parent company Tata Motors closed 0.7% higher at INR 701.35 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
