India receives 6% below normal rainfall of 4.9 mm Monday, says IMD

--IMD: India Jun 1-Sept 22 rainfall 893.8 mm, 7% above normal

 

MUMBAI – India received 4.9 millimetres of rainfall Monday, 6% below normal of 5.2 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. So far in the current season, the country has received 893.8 millimetres of rainfall, 7% above normal rainfall for the period, according to the weather department's data. 

 

Of all the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received above normal rainfall Monday and two recorded below normal rainfall. Rainfall over east and northeast India was 69% below normal at 3.0 millimetres. Rainfall over northwest India was 85% below normal at 0.4 millimetres. Central India recorded 7.5 millimetres of rain, 34% above normal. Rainfall over south peninsula India recorded 71% above normal rainfall at 8.9 millimetres, as per the data. 

 

Of 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in five, "excess" in three, "normal" in eight, "deficient" in six, "large deficient" in nine. Five subdivisions received no rainfall.  End
