MUMBAI – Small-cap and mid-cap information technology companies, including Cyient Ltd., Coforge Ltd., Persistent Systems Ltd., Mphasis Ltd., and Firstsource Soultions Ltd. told exchanges that they expect minimal impact of the hike in H–1B visa fee on their financials. Last week, the US government raised the one-time fee for H-1B visas to $100,000 on new applications, making it costlier for companies in the US to hire workers from outside.
These companies said they have reduced their reliance on H-1B visas over the years and increased local hiring, which should limit the impact of higher visa fee. "Over the years, we have been steadily reducing our reliance on visas through increased local hiring, acquisitions, and partnership," Mphasis said.
So far in 2025, Mphasis has filed only 130 new filings and received approval for 78. The count was relatively smaller for Cyient and Coforge during 2024-25 (Apr-Mar). Coforge filed 65 new H-1B visa petitions out of which it has got approval for 63. Cyient deployed only six employees on H-1B visas, it said in an exchange filing. Firstsource, a small-cap company, said it has zero dependency on the H-1B programme for its operations.
Shares of most of these companies had ended lower Friday on the National Stock Exchange. Shares of Coforge, Persistent Systems, Cyient, and Mphasis ended 0.2-1.6% lower, while those of Firstsource Solutions closed 0.3% higher. End
