India receives 17% below normal rainfall at 4 mm Saturday, says IMD

NEW DELHI – India received 4 millimetres of rainfall Saturday, 17% below normal of 4.8 millimetres for the period, the India Meteorological Department said. So far in the current season, the country received 884.8 millimetres of rainfall, 8% above normal for the period, according to the weather bureau's data. 

 

All of the four homogeneous regions of the country received below normal rainfall Saturday. Rainfall over south peninsular India was 18% below normal at 5.1 millimetres. Rainfall over northwest India was 1% below normal at 2.1 millimetres. Central India recorded 4.4 millimetres of rain, 10% below normal. East and northeast India recorded 32% below normal rainfall at 5.4 millimetres, as per the data.

 

Of 36 sub-divisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in seven, "excess" in one, "normal" in nine, "deficient" in seven, and "large deficient" in 11. One subdivision received no rainfall.  End
