NEW DELHI – A series of cyclonic circulations and a fresh low-pressure area are expected to impact various parts of India, bringing light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms over the next few days. The India Meteorological Department Saturday forecast heavy rainfall over parts of northeast India from Saturday to Wednesday. Though regions of Assam and Meghalaya are likely to experience light to moderate rain, heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during the same period, the weather agency said.

 

In the eastern and central parts of India, light to moderate rains and thunderstorms are expected at most places along with heavy rainfall likely over southwest Madhya Pradesh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim, Bihar on Saturday. Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal regions can expect heavy rainfall till Wednesday. Heavy rains will lash Chhattisgarh from Wednesday to Friday, and over Odisha from Tuesday to Friday, according to the weather bureau.

 

In the northwest, light to moderate rains and thunderstorms are expected at some places, with heavy rainfall seen over parts of east Uttar Pradesh and east Rajasthan on Saturday. Uttarakhand and east Rajasthan can expect thunderstorm, with lightning during the next 4-5 days, the weather department said. 


Parts of Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, and north Interior Karnataka will see heavy rains Saturday and Telangana is likely to witness the same on Sunday and Monday. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam will experience heavy rainfall from Wednesday to Friday, the weather bureau said.


Light to moderate rains and thunderstorms are expected at several places in western India, with isolated heavy rainfall likely over Marathawada and Gujarat region on Saturday. Konkan, Goa and central Maharashtra can expect rainfall on Saturday, Thursday, and Friday, the bureau said. 

 

Conditions are also favourable for the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir in the next 2-3 days, it said. The line of withdrawal of the southwest monsoon currently passes through Bhatinda in Punjab, Fatehabad in Haryana, Pilani and Ajmer in Rajasthan, and Deesa and Bhuj in Gujarat.  End
