MUMBAI – The Nifty Bank index is expected to sustain near current levels next week as market participants await cues on India-US trade negotiations to decide their next move, analysts said. "Progress in US-India trade negotiations and improved global liquidity continue to underpin sentiment. Going forward, investors will closely track key US macro indicators – including GDP, jobless claims and core inflation – for cues on the Fed's policy trajectory," an analyst at a mid-sized brokerage firm said.
The sectoral index rose 1.1% during the week and closed at 55,458.85 points Friday, with its constituents ending mixed. Punjab National Bank was the top gainer on Friday, rising 1.3%, while ICICI Bank led the losers and was down 1.4%.
In its technical view, Bajaj Broking said, "...the index is seen sustaining above the short and medium term moving averages. We expect the index to maintain positive bias and head higher towards 56,000-56150 levels in the coming sessions, being the 61.8% retracement of the entire decline (57628-53561). A follow through strength above 56,150 will open upside towards the 57,000 levels in the coming weeks. On the downside, immediate support is placed at 54,800 levels. While key support is placed at 54000 levels being the confluence of the last week's low and key retracement of the current pullback."
