India receives 5% above normal rainfall of 5.4 mm Friday, says IMD

--IMD: India Jun 1-Sept 19 rainfall 880.7 mm, 8% above normal

 

MUMBAI – India received 5.4 millimetres of rainfall Friday, 5% above normal of 5.1 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. So far in the current season, Friday, the country received 880.7 millimetres of rainfall, 8% above normal for the period, according to the weather bureau's data. 

 

Of all the four homogeneous regions of the country, two received above normal rainfall Friday and two recorded below normal rainfall. Rainfall over south peninsular India was 74% above normal at 10.1 millimetres. Rainfall over northwest India was 5% above normal at 2.7 millimetres. Central India recorded 4.5 millimetres of rain, 17% below normal. East and northeast India recorded 22% below normal rainfall at 6.4 millimetres, as per the data.

 

Of 36 sub-divisions of the country, rainfall was "large excess" in nine, "excess" in four, "normal" in seven, "deficient" in five, "large deficient" in 10. One subdivision received no rainfall.  End
