MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department Friday forecast heavy rainfall over parts of east and central India from Saturday to Thursday. The intensity and spread of rainfall will increase from Tuesday over most parts of this region as a fresh low-pressure area is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal mid-next week, IMD said.
Parts of eastern India are likely to experience thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching up to 30-40 kilometres per hour during the next five days. Light to moderate rainfall is also likely over some parts of the region from Saturday. The weather bureau said a low-pressure area is expected to emerge in the Bay of Bengal off the Myanmar-Bangladesh coasts on Thursday.
A few spells of heavy rainfall are expected over parts of Arunachal Pradesh till Saturday. Light to moderate rainfall coupled with thunderstorms is likely over many parts of northeast India till Tuesday, the weather department said.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northwest Uttar Pradesh and another over south Marathwada and its neighbourhood. Also, a north-south trough runs from the central parts of southern Uttar Pradesh to Marathwada, the weather department said. These weather systems are likely to cause light to moderate rainfall in western India during the next five days. Many parts of western India are likely to experience thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 3-40 km per hour during the next 4-5 days, the weather department said.
Conditions are favourable for the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir during the next 3–4 days, it said. The line of withdrawal of the southwest monsoon currently passes through Bhatinda in Punjab, Fatehabad in Haryana, Pilani and Ajmer in Rajasthan, and Deesa and Bhuj in Gujarat. End
