MUMBAI – Multiple weather systems are likely to form over the Bay of Bengal and move inland and interact with the westerly system, private weather forecasting agency Skymet said. These factors are likely to keep monsoon active over eastern, central, and western parts of the country during the end of this month, which may delay the retreat of the southwest monsoon from central India beyond the scheduled dates, it said. The normal date of withdrawal of monsoon from central India is around Oct. 10

A well-marked cyclonic circulation over the Arakan Coast of Myanmar may intensify into a low-pressure area and is expected to enter northeast Bay of Bengal on Saturday. This weather system is expected to lay over north Bay of Bengal on Sunday and hover over the northeast Bay of Bengal from Monday till Wednesday.

The agency forecasts there is a possibility of another weather system entering the Bay of Bengal and merging with the above-mentioned system to form a stronger system over north Bay of Bengal. As per the initial assessment, the system may have the potential to travel deep over central and western parts of the country during the end of the month, it said.

There is a possibility of the weather system interacting with the westerly system and resulting in rains revisiting the farthermost parts of the country yet again, Skymet said. "This may delay the exit of the southwest monsoon from the core monsoon zone of the country beyond the scheduled dates."

"The extended track of these weather phenomena may take the rains to even those parts where the monsoon stands withdrawn," the weather agency said. "Case in point pertains to Rajasthan and parts of the northern plains where the monsoon exited earlier than the scheduled dates."  End
