India rainfall Thursday 18% above normal at 6.3 mm, says IMD

--IMD: India Sept 18 rainfall 6.3 mm, 18% above normal 

--IMD: India Jun 1-Sept 18 rainfall 875.4 mm, 8% above normal

 

MUMBAI – India received 6.3 millimetres of rainfall Thursday, 18% above the normal 5.3 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. So far in the current season till Thursday, the country has received 875.4 millimetres of rainfall, 8% above the normal for the period, according to the weather bureau's data.

 

Of all the four homogeneous regions of the country, two received above normal rainfall Thursday and two recorded below normal rainfall. Rainfall over southern peninsular India was 66% above normal at 9.6 millimetres. Rainfall over northwest India was 49% above normal at 3.7 millimetres. Central India recorded 5.6 millimetres of rain, 3% below normal. Eastern and northeast India recorded 8% below normal rainfall at 8.3 millimetres, as per the data.

 

Of 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in 11, "excess" in four, "normal" in six, "deficient" in eight, and "large deficient" in six. One subdivision received no rainfall.  End
