MCX modifies maximum order size of electricity futures contracts

MUMBAI – The Multi Commodity Exchange of India has revised down the maximum order size of electricity futures contracts to 10 times of the trading unit from 50 times of the trading unit, it said in a notice. The changes will be effective from Oct. 3 in a yet to be launched as well as the running contracts, that is those expiring in October and onwards.

 

"This revision in maximum order size is being carried out based on market feedback and to maintain efficiency and robustness of the contract, as it is in nascent stages of trading. This will be reviewed as and when required at a later stage," the exchange said. Electricity futures trading in India began on Jul. 10 on MCX. The symbol of the contract is 'ELECDMBL'.

 

"The electricity futures contract will help power generators, distribution companies, large industrial consumers, and financial participants with a transparent, liquid, and reliable hedging mechanism," the exchange had said.  End
