MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in some parts of India this week due to multiple weather systems. It said light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms are likely over most parts of the country during this period.
According to the weather bureau, withdrawal of southwest monsoon has paused after withdrawing from some parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, and Punjab. The line of withdrawal of southwest monsoon passes through Bhatinda in Punjab, Fatehabad in Haryana, Pilani and Ajmer in Rajasthan, and Deesa and Bhuj in Gujarat.
Heavy spells of rainfall are likely over parts of northwest, western, and southern India till Thursday; eastern and central India till Saturday; and northeast India till Tuesday. Most parts of these regions will see light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms during this period, the weather bureau said.
Rainfall over parts of northwest, eastern, and northeast India is mainly due to an upper air cyclonic circulation over eastern Uttar Pradesh and one more over central Assam. There is another upper air cyclonic circulation over Marathwada, which is causing heavy rainfall over parts of western India.
A trough from central parts of Madhya Pradesh to westcentral Bay of Bengal is causing heavy showers over parts of central and eastern India. There is also another north-south trough from southern interior Karnataka, which is causing heavy showers over parts of southern India. End
