India receives 56% above normal rainfall at 8.8 mm Tuesday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 8.8 millimetres of rainfall on Tuesday, 56% above the normal of 5.6 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. As of Tuesday, the country has received 861.9 millimetres of rainfall this season, 8% above the normal for the period, according to the data by the weather bureau.
All the four homogeneous regions of the country received above normal rainfall Tuesday. Rainfall over south peninsular India was 6% above normal at 5.8 millimetres.
Rainfall over east and northeast India was 67% above normal at 16.4 millimetres. Of the seven sub-divisions in the region, five received "large excess" showers.
Central India recorded 10.2 millimetres of rain, 85% above normal. Northwest India recorded 50% above normal rainfall at 5.1 millimetres, as per the data.
Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in 17, "excess" in four, "normal" in two, "deficient" in five, and "large deficient" in six. Two sub-divisions received no rainfall. End
