MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department said the southwest monsoon has withdrawn further from parts of Gujarat, Punjab and Haryana, and from some more parts of Rajasthan. The line of withdrawal currently passes through Bhuj and Deesa in Gujarat, Pilani and Ajmer in Rajasthan, Fatehabad in Haryana, and Bhatinda in Punjab, the weather department said.

An upper-air cyclonic circulation over northcentral Uttar Pradesh and its neighbourhood areas is likely to cause very heavy spells of rainfall over east Uttar Pradesh till Wednesday. Moderate to heavy rainfall coupled with thunderstorms and a few spells of heavy rainfall is expected over parts of northwest India till Friday, the weather department said. The weather bureau issued an orange alert for Uttarakhand on Tuesday. An orange alert is issued when rainfall exceeding 115.6 millimetres and going up 204.4 millimetres is expected within 24 hours.

An upper air cyclonic circulation currently lies over east Jharkhand and its neighbourhood, while a trough runs from the same region to east Bangladesh. Under the influence of these weather systems, very heavy rainfall is likely over Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Wednesday, the weather department said, for which it has issued an orange alert. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected over many parts of east and central India till Saturday, the department said.

Under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation, which lies over east Vidarbha and its neighbourhood areas, parts of west India are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall till Thursday.  End
