India receives 13% above normal rainfall at 6.5 mm Monday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 6.5 millimetres of rainfall on Monday, 13% above the normal of 5.8 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. As of Monday, the country has received 853.0 millimetres of rainfall this season, 7% above the normal for the period, according to the data by the weather bureau.
Of all the four homogeneous regions of the country, two received below-normal rainfall Monday and two recorded above-normal rainfall. Rainfall over south peninsular India was 31% below normal at 3.9 millimetres. Rainfall over northwest India was 17% below normal at 2.7 millimetres.
Central India recorded 6.3 millimetres of rain, 3% above normal. East and northeast India recorded 74% above-normal rainfall at 17.8 millimetres, as per the data. Of the seven sub-divisions in the region, four received "large excess" showers.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in nine, "excess" in five, "normal" in three, "deficient" in six, and "large deficient" in 12. One subdivision received no rainfall. End
