NEW DELHI – India will hold the next round of negotiations for a free trade agreement with Peru from Nov. 3 to Nov. 5, the commerce ministry said. India has also scheduled the next round of negotiations with another Latin American nation, Chile, Oct. 27–31.

One round of negotiations is going on with Peru, the ministry said, without giving details of the round. With Chile, India has held two rounds of talks for the FTA, the ministry added.

Peru is the first Latin American country to discuss a free trade agreement with India. India imported goods worth $4.98 billion from Peru in the financial year 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), which was not even 1% of India's total imports for the year. The top goods imported by India from Peru included precious metals, iron and steel, and aluminium.

Currently, India has preferential trade pacts with Chile and the MERCOSUR bloc comprising Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Uruguay, and Paraguay. The ministry is in discussions with Chile to expand the preferential agreement into a free trade agreement. India's total trade with Chile was $3.76 billion in FY25, with exports amounting to $1.15 billion and imports to $2.60 billion.  End
