MUMBAI – India's gross exports of gems and jewellery rose over 5% on year to $2.12 billion in August and gross imports were up 0.8% on year to $1.47 billion, according to data from the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council. The country's gross gems and jewellery exports during Apr-Aug rose over 2% to $11.07 billion while gross imports rose over 5% to $8.87 billion.

Overall exports of cut and polished diamonds fell 6% on year to $972.29 million in August and imports declined around 4% on year to $112.70 million. In the first five months of 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), exports and imports of cut and polished diamonds fell 13% on year and 12% on year to $4.88 billion and $445.29 million, respectively. The country's import of rough diamonds rose over 3% to $5.14 billion during Apr-Aug. Export of polished lab-grown diamonds fell over 2% on year to $97.80 million in August.

India exported $817.19 million worth gold jewellery in August, up nearly 19% on year. Exports of gold jewellery in Apr-Aug rose nearly 27% to $4.63 billion. Silver jewellery exports in Apr-Aug rose 12.5% to $419.09 million. Exports of platinum jewellery during the same period rose over 13% on year to $83.15 million, according to the council.  End
