India receives 28% below normal rainfall at 4.1 mm Saturday, says IMD

--IMD: India Jun 1-Sept 13 rainfall 840.3 mm, 7% above normal

 

MUMBAI – India received 4.1 millimetres of rainfall Saturday, 28% below the normal for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. So far in the current season till Saturday, the country has received 840.3 millimetres of rainfall, 7% above the normal for the period, according to the weather bureau's data.

 

All the four homogeneous regions of the country received below-normal rainfall Saturday. Rainfall over south peninsular India was 13% below normal at 3.8 millimetres. Rainfall over northwest India was 66% below normal at 1.3 millimetres. Central India recorded 5.2 millimetres of rain, 16% below normal. East and northeast India recorded 26% below-normal rainfall at 7.5 millimetres, as per the data.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in five, "excess" in one, "normal" in seven, "deficient" in four, and "large deficient" in 17. Two subdivisions received no rainfall.  End
