MUMBAI – The Securities and Exchange Board of India Friday approved a proposal to improve the ease of doing business for investment advisers and research analysts. These experts can provide their past performance to clients one-on-one in a template, which will be decided in consultation with the industry standards forum. The template will also be certified by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India or the Institute of Cost Accountants of India.

"This relaxation is provided only for a period of two years from the date of operationalisation of past risk and return verification agency," the regulator said in a press release. The regulator also approved allowing investment advisers to provide a second opinion to clients on pre-distributed assets and charge asset under advice-based fee on such assets within the specified limit of 2.5% of asset value per annum.

SEBI also relaxed the norms relating to educational criteria for investment advisers and research analysts. "A graduate in any stream shall be eligible to register as IA/RA (investment adviser/research analyst)," it said in the release. Such applicant shall need to obtain specified certifications from the National Institute of Securities Markets, it added. An applicant will not be required to submit the Credit Information Bureau (India) Ltd., or CIBIL, report, net worth statement, or infrastructure details for seeking registration, SEBI said.  End
