India got 18% below normal rainfall at 5.0 mm Friday, says IMD

--IMD: India Jun 1-Sept 12 rainfall 836.2 mm, 7% above normal

 

MUMBAI – India received 5.0 millimetres of rain Friday, 18% below the normal level of 6.1 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. As of Friday, the country had received 836.2 millimetres of rain in the current monsoon season, 7% above the normal rainfall for this period, according to the weather bureau's data.

 

Of the four homogeneous regions of the country, three received below-normal rainfall Friday and one recorded above-normal rains. Rainfall over south peninsular India was 29% above normal at 6.7 millimetres. Rainfall over northwest India was 76% below normal at 1.0 millimetre. Central India recorded 5.7 millimetres of rain, 13% below normal. East and northeast India recorded 10% below-normal rainfall at 9.5 millimetres, as per the data.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in four, "excess" in four, "normal" in five, "deficient" in six, and "large deficient" in 14. Three subdivisions received no rainfall.  End
