MUMBAI - The India Meteorological Department has forecast favourable conditions for the withdrawal of southwest monsoon from some parts of west Rajasthan starting Monday. The withdrawal of the monsoon usually starts around Sept. 17, and it withdraws from the entire country around Oct. 15.
Under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over west-central India and the adjoining Bay of Bengal, a low pressure area formed over the same region in the early hours of Friday. This weather system is likely to cause very heavy rainfall over Bihar till Saturday. Similar weather conditions are likely to prevail over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Sunday. The weather bureau issued an orange alert for Odisha on Friday. An orange alert is issued when rainfall exceeding 115.6 millimetres and going up to 204.4 millimetres is expected within 24 hours.
Very heavy spells of rainfall are expected over regions of south India till Tuesday. An orange alert has been issued for coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on Friday. Heavy rainfall is also likely over most parts of south India till Thursday, the weather department said.
A trough runs from the upper air cyclonic circulation associated with the low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal towards south Maharashtra, the department added. Under its influence, heavy rainfall is also expected in a few parts of west India till Thursday, with very heavy rainfall over Marathawada on Saturday, and over parts of Konkan, Goa and central Maharashtra on Sunday and Monday, the department said.
An upper air circulation currently lies over north Haryana, northeast Jharkhand, and Tripura, the department said. Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over the seven sister states of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh till Thursday, the meteorological department said. The department has issued an orange alert for Assam and Meghalaya till Tuesday, over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura till Monday, and over Arunachal Pradesh from Saturday to Monday. End
