NEW DELHI – Ruling National Democratic Alliance's candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan took oath as the 15th vice president of India on Friday. President of India Droupadi Murmu administered the oath taking of Radhakrishnan at the Rashtrapati Bhavan with other important dignitaries in attendance, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The vice-president election was held last week where Radhakrishnan, who was previously the governor of Maharashtra, secured 452 votes, while the opposition nominee B. Sudershan Reddy secured 300 votes. Radhakrishnan is from Tamil Nadu and was elected to the Lok Sabha twice from Tamil Nadu on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket.
The post of vice-president fell vacant after incumbent Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned in late July, citing health reasons. The vice-president of India is also the ex-officio chairman of the Rajya Sabha. End
