India got 15% below normal rainfall at 5.0 mm Thursday, says IMD

--IMD: India Jun 1-Sept 11 rainfall 831.2 mm, 8% above normal 

 

MUMBAI – India received 5.0 millimetres of rainfall Thursday, 15% below the normal of 5.9 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. As of Thursday, the country has received 831.2 millimetres of rainfall so far this monsoon season, 8% above the normal for the period, according to the data.

 

Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received below normal rainfall Thursday and one recorded above normal showers. Rainfall over south India was a whopping 143% above normal at 12.7 millimetres. 

 

Rainfall in central India was 46% below normal at 3.3 millimetres, the data showed. Northwest India recorded 0.4 millimetres of rainfall, 89% below normal. Eastern and northeast India got 20% below normal rains at 8.1 millimetres, as per the data.

 

Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in seven, "excess" in three, "normal" in five, "deficient" in three, and "large deficient" in 16. Two sub-divisions received no rainfall.  End
