NEW DELHI – The Securities and Exchange Board of India will begin consultations next week with stock exchanges to explore a proposal to end weekly expiry contracts in equity derivatives trading, CNBC-TV18 reported Thursday, quoting sources. The news report said SEBI will likely float a paper on the proposals within a month.

The markets regulator is likely to propose a defined glide path for ending weekly expiry contracts and encouraging a shift to trading in existing monthly expiry contracts in equity derivatives trading on the stock exchanges, the TV channel reported. SEBI may consider same day expiry across all exchanges, it said. The market regulator will likely brief its board, when it meets Friday, on longer tenure contracts in equity derivatives, according to the TV channel.  End
