India receives normal rainfall of 45.3 mm in the week to Wednesday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received normal rainfall of 45.3 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received below-normal showers, while two recorded above-normal rainfall during the week.
Northwest India recorded 39.7 millimetres of rainfall in the week ended Wednesday, 17?ove normal, while south India received 17.7 millimetres of rain, 48% below normal. East and northeast India got 53% below-normal rains during the week at 33.2 millimetres, while central India received 41?ove-normal showers at 72.2 millimetres, as per the data.
Also, 22% of the country's total area recorded "large excess" showers during the week. Of the nine subdivisions in northwest India, two recorded "large excess" showers during the week. Similarly, three of the 10 subdivisions in central India received "large excess" showers.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "deficient" in 11, of which five were from southern peninsular, two were from central India, two were from northwest India, and two were from east and northeast India. Two subdivisions recorded "excess" rains, nine recorded "normal" showers, five received "large excess", and nine subdivisions received "large deficient" rainfall during the week. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 826.2 millimetres of rain, 8?ove the normal of 766.6 millimetres, as per the data.
