India got 62% below-normal rainfall at 2.3 mm Wednesday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 2.3 millimetres of rainfall Wednesday, 62% below the normal of 6.0 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. As of Wednesday, the country has received 826.2 millimetres of rainfall so far this monsoon season, 8% above the normal for the period, according to the data.
All four homogeneous regions in the country received below-normal rainfall Wednesday. Rainfall in central India was 58% below normal at 2.6 millimetres, the data showed. Northwest India recorded 0.4 millimetres of rainfall, a whopping 91% below normal. Southern India received 2.6 millimetres of rain, 46% below normal. Eastern and northeast India got 51% below-normal rains at 4.9 millimetres, as per the data.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in two, "normal" in one, "deficient" in 11, "large deficient" in 20, and "excess" in one. One subdivision received no rainfall. End
