Indian cos invest $2.10 bln in overseas JVs, arms in Aug, down 49% on month

MUMBAI – Investment by Indian companies in their overseas joint ventures and subsidiaries fell nearly 49% on month to $2.10 billion in August from $4.08 billion in July, according to data released by the Reserve Bank of India on Wednesday. Indian companies had made overseas investments worth $3.41 billion in August last year.
Of the total overseas investments in August, companies invested $939.64 million in equity, down nearly 45% on month. Companies committed $510.26 million in loans in August against $737.25 million in the previous month. Companies also invested $647.85 million through guarantees to their overseas arms and joint ventures, which was down by nearly 61% on month. The data, based on online reporting by authorised dealer banks, is provisional and subject to change, the RBI said. End
