India receives 32% below-normal rainfall at 4.2 mm Tuesday, says IMD

--IMD: India Jun 1-Sept 9 rainfall 823.9 mm, 8% above normal

 

MUMBAI – India received 4.2 millimetres of rainfall Tuesday, 32% below the normal 6.1 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. As of Tuesday, the country has received 823.9 millimetres of rainfall so far this monsoon season, 8% above the normal rainfall for the period, according to the data.

 

All four homogeneous regions in the country received below-normal rainfall Tuesday. Rainfall in central India was 1% below normal at 6.6 millimetres, the data showed. Northwest India recorded 2.8 millimetres of rainfall, 39% below the normal of 4.6 millimetres. Southern India received 2.1 millimetres of rainfall, 53% below normal, and eastern and northeast India got 57% below normal rains at 4.1 millimetres, the data showed.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in one, "normal" in seven, "deficient" in 10, and "large deficient" in 17. One subdivision received no rainfall on Tuesday.  End
