MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from Friday to Monday under the influence of two upper air cyclonic circulations. One cyclonic circulation currently lies over northeast Assam while the other over east Bihar and its adjoining areas.
Light to moderate rainfall, with a few spells of heavy showers, is also expected over most parts of northeast India till Thursday, the weather department said.
An upper-air cyclonic circulation lies over south Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh, which is likely to cause heavy to very heavy rainfall over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Wednesday, the weather department said. The meteorological department has issued an orange alert for these regions. An orange alert indicates rainfall exceeding 115.6 millimetres and going up to 204.4 millimetres within 24 hours. Very heavy spells of rainfall are also expected over parts of Odisha Thursday.
In west India, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, with a few spells of heavy rainfall is likely over central Maharashtra and Marathawada from Saturday to Monday, and over Konkan and Goa Sunday and Monday, the department said. End
