--SEBI to SAT: Not giving any more documents to Jane Street than what we have

--SAT sets Nov 18 as next hearing date for SEBI-Jane Street case

MUMBAI – The Securities and Exchange Board of India told the Securities Appellate Tribunal that the law does not require the regulator to share any more documents with Jane Street than what they already have. SEBI's lawyer argued that it won't be prudent to share all the documents related to its investigation about Jane Street's market manipulation at this stage.

SAT has asked SEBI to file a reply in three weeks explaining why they can't share more documents with Jane Street. The tribunal will next hear the case on Nov. 18.

Last week, Jane Street filed an appeal in SAT claiming that SEBI had not shared all relevant documents related to the market manipulation allegations by the regulator. Jane Street is seeking information related to the National Stock Exchange's investigation in November and the probe carried out by SEBI's Integrated Surveillance Department in December on the trading firm's activity. Jane Street alleged SEBI continued with investigation of the firm's trading activity despite the regulator's own department not finding any evidence of market manipulation.

In July, SEBI issued an interim order against four entities of the Jane Street Group, alleging market manipulation and even banning these entities from securities market. Since then, Jane Street has deposited INR 48 billion, which the regulator had impounded in the interim order.  End
