India receives 8% above-normal rainfall at 6.7 mm Monday, says IMD

--IMD: India Jun 1-Sept 8 rainfall 819.8 mm, 9% above normal

 

MUMBAI – India received 6.7 millimetres of rainfall Monday, 8% above the normal 6.2 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. As of Monday, the country has received 819.8 millimetres of rainfall so far this monsoon season, 9% above the normal rainfall for the period, according to the data.

 

Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received above-normal rainfall Monday and two recorded below-normal showers. Rainfall in central India was 64% above normal at 11.5 millimetres, the data showed. Northwest India recorded 4.8 millimetres of rainfall, 2% above the normal of 4.7 millimetres. Southern India received 2.3 millimetres of rainfall, 50% below normal, and eastern and northeast India got 37% below normal rains at 5.7 millimetres, the data showed.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in six, "excess" in one, "normal" in seven, "deficient" in 10, and "large deficient" in 12 on Monday.  End
