India's power generation up 1% on year at 133.73 bln KWh in Aug

KOLKATA – India's electricity generation in August rose marginally by 1.04% on year, but remained flat on month, at 133.73 billion kilowatt hour, data released by the Central Electricity Authority of India showed. In the year ago period, total power generation from all the sources was 132.36 billion kilowatt hour. In July, it was 133.70 billion kilowatt hour.
Total electricity generation includes the power bought from Bhutan.
Thermal power generation increased 0.38% year-on-year to 104.53 billion kilowatt hour in August but nuclear power generation declined sharply by almost 26% on year to 4.08 billion kilowatt hour. Hydropower generation for the month increased by 9% to 23.51 billion kilowatt hour.
Total electricity produced for the Apr-Aug period was 665.90 billion kilowatt hour, down 3.3% on year. India has set a total electricity generation target of 1.73 trillion kilowatt hour for 2025-26 (Apr-Mar).
