India Sunday rainfall 20% above normal at 8.0 mm, says IMD

NEW DELHI - India received 8.0 millimetres of rainfall on Sunday, 20% above the normal of 6.7 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. As of Sunday, the country received 813.2 millimetres of rainfall during the monsoon season so far this year, 9% above the normal for the period, according to the data.

 

Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received above-normal rainfall on Sunday and two recorded below-normal showers. Rainfall in northwest India was 96% above normal at 9.6 millimetres, the data showed. Central India recorded 11.4 millimetres of rainfall, 40% above the normal of 8.1 millimetres.

 

Meanwhile, south India received 51% below normal at 2.6 millimetres. Rainfall in the east and northeast India was 50% below normal at 4.7 millimetres, the data showed. 

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in nine, "excess" in two, "normal" in one, "deficient" in 11, and "large deficient" in 13 subdivisions on Sunday.  End
