India receives 12% above-normal rainfall at 7.7 mm Friday, says IMD

--IMD: India Jun 1-Sept 5 rainfall 799.1 mm, 9% above normal

 

MUMBAI – India received 7.7 millimetres of rainfall Friday, 12% above the normal 6.9 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. As of Friday, the country has received 799.1 millimetres of rainfall so far this monsoon season, 9% above the normal rainfall for the period, according to the data.

 

Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, one received above-normal rainfall Friday and three recorded below-normal showers. Rainfall in central India was 81% above normal at 13.5 millimetres, the data showed.

 

Northwest India recorded 5.2 millimetres of rainfall, 6% below the normal of 5.5 millimetres. Southern India received 3.8 millimetres of rainfall, 22% below normal. Rainfall in the eastern and northeast India was 52% below normal at 5.1 millimetres, the data showed.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in eight, "excess" in four, "normal" in five, "deficient" in nine, and "large deficient" in 10 subdivisions Friday.  End
