MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department will install four additional radars under Mission Mausam in Jammu and Kashmir for more accurate district-wise weather forecasts and early warnings, Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh said Thursday. The minister had convened a high-level review meeting with the divisional commissioner of Jammu and deputy commissioners of Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Kathua, and Udhampur districts, the ministry said in a release.

Singh also directed the ministry of earth sciences and IMD in particular to come out with dedicated district wise forecasts for the weather affected regions in north India such as Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab.

The minister asked divisional commissioners to take stock of the relief and rehabilitation measures undertaken in the aftermath of unprecedented rainfall, cloudbursts and flash floods in the region. The minister committed additional support from his Member of Parliament local area development scheme to provide water filters, medical kits, and ration supplies, in addition to government aid, so that no family feels unattended in this hour of crisis.

Singh also directed the earth sciences ministry and the IMD to ensure round-the-clock monitoring of weather patterns and provide timely forecasts to minimise losses through early warnings.  End
