India receives 60% above-normal rainfall at 10.9 mm Thursday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 10.9 millimetres of rainfall on Thursday, 60% above the normal of 6.8 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. As of Thursday, the country received 791.8 millimetres of rainfall during the monsoon season so far this year, 9% above the normal rainfall for the period, according to the data.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received above-normal rainfall Thursday and two recorded below normal showers. Rainfall in northwest India was a whopping 112% above normal at 11.0 millimetres, the data showed. Central India recorded 17.0 millimetres of rainfall, a whopping 118% above the normal of 7.8 millimetres.
South India received 4.5 millimetres of rainfall Thursday, 12% below normal. Rainfall in the east and northeast India was 45% below normal at 5.7 millimetres, the data showed.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in 10, "excess" in three, "normal" in nine, "deficient" in five, and "large deficient" in eight subdivisions Thursday. One subdivision recorded no rainfall. End
