--IMD: India Jun 1-Sept 3 rainfall 780.8 mm, 8% above normal

MUMBAI – India received 13.8 millimetres rainfall on Wednesday, 103% above the normal of 6.8 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. As of Wednesday, the country had received 780.8 millimetres of rainfall during the monsoon season so far this year, 8% above the normal rainfall for the period, according to the data.

Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received above-normal rainfall Wednesday and one recorded below normal showers. Rainfall in northwest India was a whopping 385% above normal at 24.7 millimetres, the data showed. Central India recorded 12.2 millimetres of rainfall, 55% above the normal of 7.9 millimetres.

South India received 5.8 millimetres of rainfall Wednesday, 12% above normal. Rainfall in the east and northeast India was 40% below normal at 5.7 millimetres, the data showed. 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in 14, "excess" in three, "normal" in five, "deficient" in seven, and "large deficient" in five subdivisions Wednesday. Two subdivisions recorded no rainfall.  End
