India receives 80% above-normal rainfall at 12.4 mm Tuesday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 12.4 millimetres of rainfall on Tuesday, 80% above the normal of 6.9 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. As of Tuesday, the country had received 767.1 millimetres of rainfall during the monsoon season so far this year, 7% above the normal rainfall for the period, according to the data.
All the four homogeneous regions in the country received above-normal rainfall on Tuesday. Rainfall in northwest India was a whopping 267% above normal at 19.4 millimetres, the data showed. All nine subdivisions in the region received "large excess" showers Tuesday.
South India received 5.4 millimetres of rainfall Tuesday, 2% above normal. Central India recorded 11.5 millimetres of rainfall, 42% above the normal of 8.1 millimetres. Rainfall in the east and northeast India was 3% above normal at 9.5 millimetres, the data showed.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in 14, "excess" in four, "normal" in eight, "deficient" in four, and "large deficient" in six subdivisions Tuesday. End
