--IMD: India Jun 1-Sept 1 rainfall 754.7 mm, 7% above normal

MUMBAI – India received 11.6 millimetres of rainfall on Monday, 73% above the normal of 6.7 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. As of Sept. 1, the country had received 754.7 millimetres of rainfall during the season so far, 7% above the normal rainfall for the period, according to the data.

Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received above-normal rainfall on Monday, while one recorded below-normal rains. Rainfall in northwest India was a whopping 352% above normal at 22.2 millimetres, the data showed. All nine subdivisions in the region received "large excess" showers Monday. 

South India received 7.2 millimetres of rainfall Monday, 41% above normal. Central India recorded 9.0 millimetres of rainfall, 12% above the normal of 8.1 millimetres. Rainfall in the east and northeast India was 79% below normal at 1.9 millimetres, the data showed. 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in 13, "excess" in two, "normal" in five, "deficient" in seven, and "large deficient" in nine subdivisions Monday.  End
