Hyundai Motor India Aug domestic despatches fall, exports continue to grow

NEW DELHI – Hyundai Motor India Ltd. sold 60,501 cars to dealerships in August, it said in an exchange filing Monday. The company had sold 63,175 cars in August last year, according to media reports, translating to a 4% on-year fall.
The Creta maker sold 44,001 cars in India and 16,500 units abroad in August. Domestic car sales fell over 11% on year while exports grew 21% on year. "Our goal is to establish India as a strategic manufacturing base for emerging economies and to become Hyundai's largest export hub outside South Korea," said Tarun Garg, the company's whole-time director and chief operating officer. The South Korean automotive major's India arm has exported 118,840 units so far this financial year.
In July, the company had sold 60,073 cars overall. This included 43,973 cars sold in India and 16,100 cars sold overseas.
For the June quarter, the company reported a consolidated net profit of INR 13.7 billion on revenue of INR 161.8 billion. On Monday, its shares closed 0.2% lower on the National Stock Exchange at INR 2,455.60. End
