NEW DELHI – India's goods and services tax collections grew 6.5% on year to INR 1.863 trillion in August, data released by the government Monday showed. Sequentially, GST collections were down 4.8% from July. At INR 1.863 trillion, August's on year growth of 6.5% was only a little higher than June's on-year growth of 6.2% which was the the slowest pace in four years. In July, collections had grown 7.5% on year. 

 

Cumulatively, GST collections in the first five months of 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) grew 9.9% on year to INR 2.46 trillion, 1 percentage point lower than the 10.9% growth projected in the Budget.

 

Of the total collections in August, Central GST accounted for INR 340.76 billion, State GST INR 428.54 billion, Integrated GST accounted for INR 971.86 trillion, and INR 121.99 billion was from compensation cess. GST revenue, net of refunds, was INR 1.67 trillion in August, up 10.7% on year.

 

Gross domestic GST revenue rose 9.6% on year to INR 1.37 trillion in August, while the import revenue fell to INR 493.54 billion from INR 499.76 billion a year ago. Refunds during the month fell sharply by 19.9% on year to INR 193.59 billion. The post-settlement revenues of states rose 6% on year to INR 4.19 trillion in August.  End
