--Ashok Leyland to invest INR 50 bln over 7-10 yrs for battery localisation

--Ashok Leyland: In long-term exclusive partnership with China's CALB Group

MUMBAI – Ashok Leyland Ltd. Monday said it will invest INR 50 billion over 7–10 years for battery localisation. The investment aims to develop and manufacture next-generation batteries for both automotive and non-automotive applications, including energy storage systems, the company said in an exchange filing.

For this, the company has signed a long-term exclusive partnership with CALB Group, a battery technology company in China. This comes amid the recent supply-chain issues of rare earth magnets after China banned its export in April.

The company reported a 5% on-year growth in its despatches during August as sales of buses offset muted truck sales. For the June quarter, the company reported a net profit of INR 5.94 billion on a revenue of INR 87.25 billion. At 1318 IST, the stock traded 0.3% higher at INR 127.39 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
