India receives 5% above-normal rainfall at 7.1 mm Sunday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 7.1 millimetres of rainfall on Sunday, 5% above the normal of 6.8 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. From Jun. 1 to Aug. 31, the country has received 743.1 millimetres of rainfall, 6% above the normal rainfall for the period, the data showed.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received below-normal rainfall on Sunday, while one recorded above-normal showers.
Rainfall in northwest India was a whopping 132% above normal at 10.4 millimetres, the data showed. East and northeast India received 5.7 millimetres of rainfall, which is 36% below normal. Central India recorded 6.3 millimetres of rainfall, 27% below the normal of 8.7 millimetres. Rainfall in the southern peninsula was 18% below normal at 4.6 millimetres, the data showed.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in nine, "excess" in five, "normal" in three, "deficient" in eight, and "large deficient" in 11 subdivisions. End
