MUMBAI – A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the northeast Bay of Bengal next week, the private weather forecaster Skymet said. The weather system will keep the monsoon active over east, central, and west India. "The month of September will commence on a rainy note and unleash the monsoon surge through the week across large parts of the country," the weather agency said Saturday.
This new low-pressure area will have its "roots in the South China Sea". "A tropical depression is marked in the South China Sea, just south of the Chinese province of Hainan." It will cross the north Vietnam coast Saturday night and thereafter travel across Laos, northern Thailand, and the interiors of Myanmar, the weather agency said.
The remnants of this tropical depression will enter the Bay of Bengal on Monday and within 12-24 hours it is likely to intensify into a low-pressure area. Further, the weather system is likely to strengthen into a well-marked low pressure on Tuesday or Wednesday, Skymet said.
The weather system is expected to breach Odisha's coastline on Thursday and the east-west monsoon trough will connect with the remnant of the earlier system over Gujarat. "Along this trough, an active shear zone will escalate monsoon activity. These two systems, in their respective areas, will also boost monsoon rainfall over a large portion of the country," Skymet said. End
