Global alumina production in July up 4% on month, says Aluminium Institute

MUMBAI – Global alumina production rose 4% on month to 12.95 million tonnes in July, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. The on-year alumina output was also up by over 4%.
The average daily global alumina production rose to 417,800 tonnes in July from a revised 414,900 tonnes in June, the data showed. Alumina production in China was 7.75 million tonnes in July, up 3.3% on month. The country's output, which accounted for nearly 60% of global alumina production, was up by 5.5% from a year ago, the data showed.
In the Oceania region, alumina output rose around 10% on month to 1.48 million tonnes in July. In Africa and Asia, excluding China, alumina production was up over 3% to 1.26 million tonnes in July from 1.22 million tonnes in June. In Europe, production was up by 5,000 tonnes to 632,000 tonnes and the output in South America was at 1.03 million tonnes against 989,000 tonnes in June, the data showed.
According to the data, global production of primary aluminium was up by 3.2% on month to 6.37 million tonnes in July. At 2040 IST, the most-active September aluminium contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was 0.8% higher at INR 255.00 per kg. On the London Metal Exchange, the three-month aluminium contract was 0.4% higher at $2,614.0 per tonne. End
