India gets 32% above-normal rainfall at 9.7 mm Friday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 9.7 millimetres of rainfall Friday, 32% above the normal of 7.3 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Since Jun. 1, the country has recorded 6% above normal rainfall at 727.6 millimetres.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received above-normal showers while one recorded below-normal rainfall. The southern peninsula recorded a whopping 164% above-normal rainfall at 13.5 millimetres, data from the weather department showed. Of the 10 subdivisions in the region, seven recorded "large excess" rainfall.
Central India received 11.5 millimetres of rainfall, 12% above normal. Rainfall in northwest India was 30% above normal at 5.6 millimetres. In eastern and northeast India, rainfall was 4% below normal at 8.7 millimetres, the data showed.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall on Friday was "large excess" in 16, "excess" in one, "normal" in five, "deficient" in five, and "large deficient" in nine subdivisions. End
